The doll-house (as our children call it) is best suited for a couple or a family or group of friends of three. The house was built at the end of the 19th century, furnished in the 1960's and more recently in vintage style, and partially renovated in 2014.
Separate from the house is a 52-square-meter garden with a table and four bikes that can be used for free.
The house is very simple and perfect for a week's escape or summer holiday (see special rates), either for a single traveler looking for calm, or for a couple, small group of friends or family without luxury expectations. Nature lovers and bird watchers, beach goers and dune hoppers; mussel and shell finders are especially welcome!
The house is located in a side alley of the main street of Vlieland's only village, Dorpstraat. It is within a four-minute walking distance from the harbor, 1 minute from the supermarket, cafes and restaurants. It is also very close to the dunes and the forest and a three minute walk to Waddenzee.
Please expect no luxury (no wi-fi, furniture is simple, expect some peeling paint here and there, old carpets) but basic modern functionalities (warm water, gas heater, gas cooking stove, coffee machine, television, DVD player, collection of books, videos and board games), and plenty of character, in one word, simple comforts. According to those who stayed in the house, the atmosphere is back-in-time, relaxed and unique (see pictures).
The house is NOT suitable for people who have difficulty with steep stairs (unfortunately the ladder leading upstairs is not easy for unaccompanied young children or people in wheel-chairs).
Please bring your own sheets (alternatively, for an extra charge there are new sheets available in the house)
Orientation in the house:
The house is 27 square meters per floor (there are two floors).
The first floor contains mini-living room, mini-kitchen and mini-bathroom/toilet. The bathroom is to your right as you enter the house. Another door next to it contains a small closet for the vacuum cleaner and mini-museum of Dutch newspapers from the 1930's on the closet walls.
The second floor hosts three tiny bedrooms, two of them with double beds; one of them in need of renovation (therefore, staying with more than three people is not recommended).
The keys to the bikes can be found on the mantelpiece above the gas heater.

From the harbor, walk into the Dorpstraat (just follow the crowds, that's where everybody goes), continue down the street for about 4 minutes. Turn before Dorpstraat 99 into Boereglop to your right. Turn the first corner (opposite from the house Susan and further on Rabobank). Continue down the paved path till you cannot go any further, our little white house is to your left and the garden is to your right, there's number 1 at its green/red door.
No smoking inside (there is an ash tray on the garden table)
The ground around the house is the neighbour's premises, you cross it from house to the garden. Feel free to use our garden in the back (but of course there's plenty of space as well in cafes on Doprstraat or in the dunes!). Please note: sometimes the snack café neighbor moves his carts across the terrain.
Please be economical with water and electricity. The water supply on the island is an underground.
Wash can be done either by hand or in the paid launderette in the Yacht harbor.
The garbage bin is in our garden (black with a big silver 1 on it). The trash collection is Thursday morning. Please put the bin outside on the street next to the Rabobank (also on Boereglop) on Wednesday evening after 10 PM. If you want to save trees and support the local marching band, they collect used paper on Saturday morning on Dorpsstraat. The glass recycling container is opposite from the entrance to Spar, the supermarket. Bio-organic compost can be deposited in our garden.
If you are using our bedding sheets, please remove them and put them in the third bedroom.
Please leave the house in the state you would like to see it yourself when you enter (clean).
